I am currently working in the Healthcare Management field for several years and I have a MA in healthcare management. I recently viewed a Chief of Staff vacancy in an educational setting. Would this be a 180 degree turn for me if I applied for the position. I enjoy management and operations and see this as an opportunity to expand my knowledge. Would this be considered a great career change?

Lots of people make changes throughout the course of their career, so I don't see a problem with it. I think you need to decide if it's the right change for you. Can you see yourself doing that job and being happy in it? What is the future for that field? Is it a job that you think you'll still enjoy in 1 year? 3 years? 5+ years? If not, what will the next career progression be?

I sometimes make a list of pros, cons and questions when I'm trying to make a big decision. It may seem like a silly exercise, but actually writing these things out gives me clarity. Perhaps you should do a similar analysis about the pros and cons of your current job versus the new opportunity.

Good luck!
